This Christmas, I travelled to Fort Lauderdale, Florida to visit my fiance’s family there.
The trip was very enjoyable, but I’ll admit that Christmas in the heat and sunshine was a little wierd. I guess I now know how the Aussies feel.
The Fort Lauderdale and Miami area is full of great restaurants, and we enjoyed an interesting and fun walking tour of eateries in Miami.
My favorite restaurant experience was at Seaspice. Great food and ambience, sitting close enough to the water that one has to pay attention not to fall in! Here’s the dining area at Seaspice:
One downside of the travel was the experience at FLL airport. All terminals were crazy full, way beyond any functional capacity. I waited 30 mins for the bus to the rental car facility, and then decided that said bus wasn’t ever going to come and so I walked the half-mile instead. Airport staff were consistently rude and unhelpful. So, one bit of travel advice… Avoid FLL at peak times. What I don’t know is whether Miami airport is any better… I’ll find out next time I heard that far south!
